Figuring out arguments

We routinely give (and are expected to give) reasons for what we believe and say. Yet, for our reasons to actually offer rational support, those reasons have to be structured in just the right way. Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s Reason Mapping Team is devoted to diagramming these important logical relations.

If you can see more clearly some strong reasons for and against a given claim, you will be in a much better position to make up your mind about that claim. Diagrams help us do that.

So, have a look at the arguments that we have mapped out. Hopefully, the diagrams will help to focus your thinking, clarifying which parts you agree or disagree with — and more importantly why.
